Stroll La Marsa 2022

After leaving the Ekklesia Building we will have lunch at a local Syrian restaurant called Zine el Cham.  After lunch you will catch a BOLT into La Marsa to explore by foot the village you will be living in for the next month.

Have the BOLT drop you at Librarie Al Kitab La Marsa.  This is one of the most famous bookstores in Tunisia.  The famous one is actually in downtown Tunis.  This bookstore is located in the main intersection coming into La Marsa.

Walk up the Avenue de l’independence towards the fountain of La Marsa.  There are plenty of good coffee shops and pastry shops in this area.  Young people like to hang out at Cosmito Coffee.  Across the street is Erik Kayser where you can get great bread and pastries.  Just off the fountain to the right is the Boulangerie Paul which is a famous French pastry and coffee shop.  Opposite Paul is the Sabato Coffee Shop and Restaurant.  Next to Paul is one of Tunisia’s best ice cream stores called Parad’Ice.  If you really want to eat some yummy calories, go a little further to Twist Gelateria and get their homemade bubble waffle cone with ice cream and Nutella inside.

Now walk over to the entrance of La Marsa’s biggest and best park.  Stroll through the park to get an idea of what is in there.  (Parc Essaada)

Now we are going to head towards downtown Marsa.  Stroll past this sandwich shop (Oueld El Bey) on this pedestrian only cut-through.  There are lots of little cheap restaurants in this zone.

Head to  Place Saf Saf :  Jack’s favorite cafe is under the awning in the middle of this square.    Come back here one evening to try a Bambalooni donut from El Hanna and a mint tea from the Café Houasse.

Walk over to the Zephyr Mall of La Marsa. California Gym, Ooredoo Telephone Service, Monoprix Grocery store and a cool coffee shop on the roof are all located in here.  All around this area are tons of coffee shops, restaurants and boutique stores.

When you come out of the mall, the metro station is a stones throw.  You can catch a metro for 1 Dinar to downtown Tunis from here.

Now, stroll along the Corniche of La Marsa.  This is where people love to hang out in the summer.  Grab an ice cream at Maneken!

It might not be open on a Sunday afternoon, but La Marsa has a fun market where people get their fruits and vegetables, fish, meat and flowers.  Marché Municipal.  There is also a Carrefour Express grocery store in this area as well.

The last stop on your walking tour is a place that a lot of young people like to hang out and study and that is the L’Agora Cultural Center.  They also have a cinema and coffee shop.

You are now free to take a BOLT home or walk home.
